Years ago, the education community in West Virginia wanted to dedicate its time and energy to delivering the best education possible to students. But, those educators often spent a lot of their efforts fighting for their rights and their students’ needs. But then, the West Virginia Education Association was created.
That was 150 years ago, and over the years WVEA has gained unparalleled experience in dealing with the many issues that face our public schools such as: teacher quality, classroom size, educator compensation, school funding and more.
WVEA is led by a knowledgeable, talented leadership team, and the organization has an excellent track record. This gives our members the confidence that WVEA is doing everything in its power to help you do your jobs better and create great public schools.
Founded in 1865, WVEA is now West Virginia’s largest teachers’ organization with more than nearly 15,000 members. Our team of educators consists of K-12 classroom teachers and K-12 certificated staff, classified employees, including secretaries, custodians, classroom assistants, cafeteria workers, bus drivers and other education support professionals. WVEA also includes higher education faculty and classified members, as well as students enrolled in teacher education programs in West Virginia colleges and universities and retired members. We have local associations in every school district in the state.
WVEA prides itself on being a leader in statewide and local school improvement programs and education reform issues. We grow stronger each day by providing our dedicated members with services such as: communications, community organizing, human relations, professional development, legal assistance, lobbying, member benefits, organizational development, political action, research and many other education-related programs. |
